COS A/W 16 Preview

I was lucky enough to head along to the COS A/W preview earlier in the month, and like all of their earlier previews, it didn’t disappoint. I have been a big fan of COS for quite some time, mainly down to their cut, colour palette and textures. In saying that, I know from friends that not all of their shapes are to everyone’s liking, however I promise that their skirts, tops, bags, and shoes alone are enough to visit for!
What I loved about the A/W 16 collection was the infustion of colour – purple aubergines, dusty pinks, a nice juxtaposition to the sometimes androgenous look in COS. There were a lot of collapsed, feminine necklines too, and the wide leg trousers took palazzo pants to a whole level! Again lots of of lovely textures (satin and wool), and I couldn’t help but think today when I was in the store, we could do with this stock now rather than the swimwewar! (It snowed in Dublin today – crazy!)
One of the highlights from the event (aside from the clothing), was the fabulous food by Cocu. If you are ever on Baggot St, or Harcourt St, and fancy some healthy lunch or treats, please pop in and give it a go. You’ll have a path worn back to it if you do:-)
Final note – COS also does fabulous menswear – I introduced my brother recently to the brand and he’s now a big fan!

Lennon Courtney @ Dunnes Stores

I feel a broken record apologising for my absenteeism but I have been really busy with work (new job – all good but learning the ropes!) and had to take a little step back from the blog. How and ever, I’m back, prompted by a recent trip to the new Dunnes Stores in St. Stephens Green, and the excitement at seeing their new Spring 16 collections!! I am a fan of all of their brands, a particular soft spot for Carolyn Donnelly Eclectic Homeware collection, and her womenswear collection Carolyn Donnelly – The Edit (biased by the fact that she was always lovely in the office!) How and ever, it is the beautiful sugary colours of Lennon Courtney’s SP16 collection that really got me excited – it’s fair to say I want a piece of it all! It’s lovely to be back :-)

The Turtle Neck:-)

Firstly, Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year! I have been busy with work lately and have neglected the poor blog as a result but I got the push I needed last night when a) a reader gave out to me for my lack of posts lately and b) I saw a lovely young man out wearing a turtle neck. His friends were slagging him calling him “Steve Jobs”, and I thought turtle necks should be not an item of clothing that makes you stand out! They are so practical and cosy for this weather. Some of my high street favourites include; United Colours of Benetton, Reiss have a really big selection and if you want to go a bit more fitted – COS has a great selection (first 3 pictures below are from Cos, 4,5, & 6 from Reiss!)

Clarks A/W 15 collection

is amazing! Who would have thought, even a few years ago, that you’d be able buy silver glittery ankle boots, or Stuart Weitzman-esque Over-the-Knee suede boots there. I certainly wouldn’t have! I picked up the silver ankle boots… they called “I’m over here” when I walked into the shop ;-) They also have their new collection of Orla Kiely exlusively for Clarks if you are looking for some retro print. Hon the Clarks!

Business Casual

Firstly apologies for my recent hiatus, I started a new job and had to go to Chile with the company which was exciting and very busy! My new role is with a wine company called Concha y Toro (you might have heard of one of their brands Casillero Del Diablo, it’s very popular in Ireland!) The dress code for the week was Business Casual – which I find can be tricky to get right sometimes. COS Stores was my go to – I pretty much kitted out for the week in there. I love their shirts so I got one shirt and black top which covered two days with a cropped black trousers, and then wore dresses the other two days. See below pics – the silk cotton blue dress is really comfy and easy to wear. I have also included pics from the company’s Pirque vineyard in Santiago, where the original Devils Cellar or Casillero Del Diablo is. This was one of the funnest days as it involved the wine tasting”, and also a tour of the grounds which are beautiful. Pirque is open to the public so if you ever find yourself in South America, I strongly recommend you visit it for some vino tasting and a tour:-)

Folkster for weddings

I spent the loveliest day on Saturday in Wicklow at my friends wedding. Aside from the beautiful bride, the other belle of the ball was my friend Brittany who was wearing a gorgeous outfit from Folkster in Temple Bar. Her skirt in particular was amazing, it was two tier, or longer at the back than the front. I popped into the store last week on my lunch and they have some beautiful pieces at the moment. I stongly recommend a visit if you have an occasion coming up. Ps one of the pics below is the barn where the wedding was – it was magical! Coming from a farm myself, I had a very different perception of a barn until last weekend!

CREATE 2015 @ Brown Thomas

Brown Thomas was abuzz on Tuesday night with the return of Irish Designers CREATE, a celebration of innovation of design. The Luxury retailer will showcase Irelands most talented Designers over a six week long installation starting this week, and if you get the chance, you should definitely pop in. The fifty designers are located on different areas in the store, and the product is fantastic. One of my favourite areas including the millinery section – I have my eye on Laura Kinsella (below with my friend Sarah) and Aisling Ahern (below with me) should my lovely brother ever take me to Longchamp;-) I also loved Giovanna Borza’s collection of wearable scarves, gilets, and jackets. I fell in love with her pieces when I saw them at the Griffith College Fashion show some year’s ago, and I think like many at the showcase, she’s going to be really big. Watch this space!

The most talked about shoe of the summer…

….the black lace up! Aquazzura set the bar with their beautiful Belgravia lace up suede flats, and Office have made them accessible to the masses (Thank God for the high street :-) Aquazzura do theirs in suede, a nod to 70′s trend that’s so prevalent. (Speaking of 70′s, my friend had a lovely camel coloured suede jacket on her yesterday and I spotted a cropped version today in Carolyn Donnelly range. Something tells me the Bell Bottommed era is well and truly back!

Power Play suit

I’m on a playsuit buzz at the moment. I wore a black Pinko playsuit to a wedding recently and I couldn’t believe the ease of movement! Below are some lovely styles currently from Asos, if you budget will stretch a bit more, Reiss have a few lovely ones too:-)

Wedding Wardrobe:-)

Firstly, I’m sorry for the delay in posting, it turns out my boyfriend was not born to be a wedding planner (your job is safe Franc!) and I had a few bits to do over the last few weeks. In saying that, I was actually slagged a lot for being disorganised – apparently it’s not okay to only start looking for bridesmaids dresses three weeks before the wedding, to do the mass leaflet the day before (I knew I’d never get around to a booklet!) or get fitted for your dress without shoes. I think it’s fine though. The important thing to remember is that 1) a relaxed bride = happy bride and happy bride = happy groom/guests 2) life and marriage are not perfect so don’t worry about having a less than perfect day!

Below is my bridesmaid Dora and her mam Doreen. The bridesmaids wore white (they are the real reason I was relaxed – they were brilliant!) I don’t know why but I always wanted the bridesmaids in white, and they liked the idea too.

The Bridal Party

I think without planning, a white and green theme emerged as I wanted as much greenery or nature as possible throughout the day.
Green and white inspiration

I picked up the bridesmaids dresses in Marks and Spencers, and the matron of Honour (my big sis), I got her’s on Asos (if you click on the photos they will enlarge). Apparently it’s tradition for the matron of honour to dress differently (you become matron if your married) so I thought it would be nice to dress her differently. The big colour of the day was red however, the girls below were joking that they were too my bridesmaids:-)

After the photos I took off the veil and replaced with a bird cage veil.
One of my friends in work had a beautiful one her mum had made for her, and when she kindly offered it I thought I had to take her up.

The most exciting part of the evening was after the first dance, as I got to take off the dress. I changed into a cream halterneck and wide legged trousers from Zara and it was so comfortable! I had always wanted to wear trousers to my wedding so thought this would be a good time. And I could finally dance!

Looking back, one of my favourite parts of the day was the ceremony. My cousins Cian and Emma played and sang a mix of Gospel and operatic style hymns and it was fantastic. The entire (little) church rocked and on occasions, I felt like I was in Oklahoma or somewhere down south! “Here I am Lord….!”

As juxtaposing as this sounds, we have headed to northern Ibiza for the Honeymoon to relax. I have never been here before and have always wanted to check out the markets, and boho style. It’s very secluded where we are (we’re on the side of a cliff) and apart from the weather, I could be in the west of Ireland at the Cliffs of Moher! I went to a lovely little organic cafe today called La Paloma, if you ever visit the island you have to visit it!

P.s. I played the below song walking into the room for the dinner as I thought it’s a good toe tapper. Matt wasn’t aware we were having a song until the second they opened the door – I figured it would be a good surprise for him – he he! I think dancing to that with family and friends is my best memory of the day:-)
